So a short infographic I've been working based on the talks I've had over the weekend and when the 5 cups of coffee finally left my body.

Now if we could just find ways to make the fediverse more inviting to Black & BIPOC folks....

@cavyherd @DarrenNevares If only we could get the BIPOC voices to be listened to as they exit the fediverse after being whitesplained that there isn't harassment here.

Or, here's a wild idea: get them listened to •before• they exit, so they can feel safe to •stay•?
Maybe possibly? I don't have the first idea how to do that, sadly....

@cavyherd @DarrenNevares That would be excellent, and a great goal.
So far, the experience has been multiple versions of they tried to alert moderators to the problem, and got diss'd because (white reasons).
I only know this because there are some black fedifolks who will call it out, and not leave, despite the dogpiling and harassment.
I don't know how to fix it either, but I hope by listening and calling out the white 'splaining if I get to see it, I can help.
The chart that started this thread is good, and seems fair, except it's from a majority perspective. The fediverse is left-leaning, but also fairly priviledge-leaning.
Think of it like telling someone who lives in a food desert that they need more organics and freerange foods.. when they can't even get basic fresh and healthy versions.
in short - seek out BIPOC voices that are here now, and listen to what they face. If it's your instance (but not you
) perheps helping their situation with the instance admin. can bring good change.
Generally, the exits are after admins of instance that is source of abuse tell the exiting party (part of a different instance) that they don't see any abuse, and won't take any action.
. :listen:. :be an ally:

Yep. Here's some additional thoughts on how white people can make fedi less toxic for Black people - https://privacy.thenexus.today/start-making-the-fediverse-less-toxic/
